We are beyond excited about the 4th Annual Cairo Magnolia Celebration! Our goal this year is to provide a chance for as many people as possible (both inside and outside the area) to experience the richness of Cairo's historical treasures for themselves.
WELCOME TO OUR HISTORICAL
HOMETOWN SHOWCASE!
This year's celebration, held on Saturday, May 3, picks up on what we started in 2024: rather than a ticketed meal/program as in years past, our focus will be on showcasing as much of Historical Cairo as we can in one day!
GUIDED HISTORICAL CHURCH/HOME TOUR
The day will begin at 9:45 am with a morning guided tour of several historic churches and private homes, many open for the first time. Our Shawnee Mass Transit District friends will once again provide complimentary bus transportation for those who enjoy the narrated guided tour beginning at 9:45 am (load at 9:30 at the Southern Bank parking lot, 800 Washington Avenue, Cairo). Seating is first come, first served, and guests have the option of following along in their private vehicles to each tour stop.
PLEASE NOTE:
All featured churches will be open for public viewing from 10:00-12:00. However, admittance to private homes is only allowed on the guided tour. While there is no charge for the tour, pre-registration is highly recommended and can be done at this link.
The 4th Annual
Cairo Magnolia Celebration
May 3, 2025
LUNCH BREAK
At noon we will return to the bank, and unload for lunch on your own (local restaurants will be available).
Between 12:00 and 12:30, we will gather for an optional prayer meeting over the city of Cairo on the corner of 12th & Cedar (newly designated NPS Underground Railroad Civil War Contraband campsite). In case of rain, the gathering will be held inside the Safford (Cairo Public) library.
HISTORICAL PROJECT BUILDINGS SELF-TOUR
Self-guided tours of our well-known project buildings — Magnolia Manor, Ward Chapel AME Church (exterior only), Safford Public Library, and the Cairo Custom House — will begin from 12:30 - 3:30 pm. You won’t want to miss these architectural jewels!
FREE AFTERNOON RECEPTION
The day will end at a free refreshment reception from 3:30-5:00 at the Harold Jones Fine Arts Center (formerly the Khourie Brothers clothing store) at 815 Commercial Avenue in the downtown historical district. Time will be provided for a question-and-answer session with our board about the preservation vision and work of TCHPP, Inc.
ADMISSION COST
While attendees will have the opportunity to donate to our tax-deductible preservation mission, this year's tour celebration and reception will have NO ADMISSION CHARGE! That's right--it's free!
SUPPORT THE EVENT THROUGH OUR AD BOOK
If you would like to financially support our event for Historical Cairo, we are selling ads for our event ad booklet (as we have in past years) at this link until April 13. Thank you!
NOTE: AD SALES ARE NOW CLOSED! THANKS!
